HTRI recently conducted vertical intube reflux condensation tests on the HTRI Multipurpose Condensation Unit (MCU). The experimental and analytical study yielded new data, which we used to evaluate literature methods and to develop a new design method for reflux condensers. This article, a summary of flooding criteria for reflux condensation, provides guidelines for calculating critical flooding velocity in reflux condenser designs.
