Abstract:

For condensation of mixtures, HTRI recommends using a Resistance Proration Method (RPM) to determine the condensate film and the vapor-phase resistances. We validated the prediction accuracy of the RPM for condensation of mixtures under vacuum using experimental data from our Low Pressure Condensation Unit (LPCU). Comparisons indicate that an RPM as implemented by HTRI and by HTFS can predict most of the experimental heat transfer coefficients within ±25 percent. Using the latest LPCU experimental data for mixtures, we improved the prediction accuracy of the HTRI RPM. The ratios of calculated-to-measured heat transfer coefficient fall within ±20 percent for 95 percent of vacuum mixture condensation data.
